Kubuntu KDE4 “shockingly usable”

Response in #kubuntu-devel today from a long time Gnome user I suggested give KDE4 a try:
ScottK: wow I’m pleasantly surprised, KDE4 is shockingly usable
and I like the ability to toggle compositing with a hotkey
thanks for encouraging me to try it 🙂

I have nothing to add.

I think I’m going to have to torrent and burn a Kubuntu 8.10 LiveCD some time soon…

I’m a long time kubuntu user. I tried kde4 in Hardy and it wasn’t usable.
I’m shocked to find out the amazing quality of the kde4.1 release in Intrepid.

Well if you exclude the fact that Katapult is missing and KSnapshop crashes on usage it is much better better than 4.0 but still a lot of work to be done. And they fixed the keyboard layouts shortcuts. Alt-Shift layout switching actually works without hacks!

Hmmm. I’ve used Ksnapshot a number of times and not had any problems. If something is crashy, please report bugs.
If you press alt-F2 you get a window that performs very similar to katapult.

This Kubuntu release WORKSFORME. If you have problems please report bugs. If you don’t like the new filemanager please use the alternative one. If you don’t like the default theme please use an alternative one. If you don’t like the panel please use an alternative one. If you don’t like the desktop environment please use GNOME and let us alone developing cool libraries productively used by an app or two that are not even part of the KDE project.
